In most situations, the bottom of the screen is the best place for the taskbar to be. However, in some situations, it might be necessary to move the taskbar to the top of the screen or either side. It is very straightforward, the below instructions will show you how to move the taskbar to the bottom, side or top of screen and how to lock it there.
How to move the taskbar
- Right-click a blank area of the taskbar
- From the menu click Lock the taskbar to deselect
- Left click the taskbar and do not release
- Move the mouse to desired side or top of the screen to move the taskbar
- Release mouse
- Lock the taskbar in place by right-clicking a blank area of the taskbar
- From the menu click Lock the taskbar to lock
Note: If you are using multiple screens it is also possible to move the taskbar to another screen and position by dragging the taskbar. If you want to permanently move the taskbar to another screen you should do this in display options and select the desired screen as primary.
How to move the taskbar with taskbar settings (Windows 10)
- Right-click a blank area of the taskbar
- From the menu click Taskbar settings
- A new window will open, under the Taskbar location on screen section
- Use the drop down menu to select Left, Top, Right, or Bottom
- You will see the taskbar move as you select different options
- Close window.
How to move the taskbar with taskbar settings (Windows 7)
- Right-click a blank area of the taskbar
- From the menu click Lock the taskbar to deselect
- Right-click a blank area of the taskbar
- From the menu click Properties
- A new window will open called Taskbar and Menu Properties
- Make sure the Taskbar tab is selected
- Under the Taskbar location on screen section select Left, Top, Right, or Bottom
- Click Apply and the taskbar should move to the desired location.
